POSTCARD FROM AFRICA-- February 2024

A NEW BEGINNING

Zimkhitha is a preschool teacher for the Fountain of Hope preschool in the Western Cape of South Africa. For Zimkhitha it is an emotional experience to see her 6 year old students from last year in their new school uniforms and going to “big” school. She is proud of them. She looks forward to a new beginning each year, meeting the new students and getting to know their personalities. The first few weeks are bumpy as the children tend to cry for their mom when they are dropped off at school. They soon settle, she says, and learn to enjoy each other, their new environment and their lessons. Zimkhitha says that helping little children to love to learn brings her much joy and happiness.

BACK TO SCHOOL

Realeboga lives in Molelwane village, in the Northwest Province of South Africa. She is 7 years old. Realeboga was a student of the Orchard: Africa Fountain of Hope preschool from the age of one. She is a very bright little girl who loves school and loves to learn. Her favorite subject is Mathematics and she says she is very good at it. She also likes coloring and drawing cartoon characters. She does not like school breaks because, according to her,  all she does is play. Realeboga is very happy to be back at school with her teachers whom she loves and the learning that she thrives on.  When she grows up, she wants to be a doctor and she wants to buy a car.

You, our Orchard Community, help make all this possible. Your support helps both teachers and students through the school year.  Thank you for your investment in our education program.
